Sutton-Gray Flagpole

This flagpole is located on the Sandy Beach Field just outside Jesse H. Metcalf Lodge, the Sandy Beach Dining Hall. It is named after two Scouts, Karl Sutton and J. Russell Gray.

Karl Sutton

Karl Sutton was T. Dawson Brown's Senior Patrol Leader in his home troop. He was killed in the last days of World War Two when was 19 years old.

J. Russell Gray

J. Russell Gray was a Scouter who spent many weekends at Yawgoog and wrote many articles about camp for the Providence Journal. He was also very active in the religious life at Yawgoog. He assisted the Catholic Chaplain and eventually became the chairman of the Bishop's Committee on Scouting. He also served as "General Manager" of Slade's Gang.
